Expressing Creativity on the Quake

I remember watching the movie Pitch Perfect for the first time in fourth grade. The main character Beca, played by Anna Kendrick, is a college student who works at the campus radio station. After working there long enough and creating her own songs, she got the opportunity to play her mixes on the radio. Just the idea of a college having a radio station was so fascinating to ten-year-old me. But being able to pick what is played to a bunch of people? Insane.

When I found out Wilmington College had their own radio station, I immediately joined my freshman year. My best friend and I attended an interest meeting a little over two years ago. The first show we did was titled "Bestest Fwiends". The name was inspired by a pair of friendships bracelets my friend made for us in high school. Every week we would get in the studio and talk about whatever we wanted. In the month of October we had "Spooky Month". Each week we talked about different ghoulish topics. Horror movies, true crime, cryptids, and the end of the month was all about Halloween. When our show was on Wednesdays, we did a segment called "Wikipedia Page Wednesday". During the week we would find a Wikipedia page we found interesting and share it on the air! One week we decided to do Kahoots... And I'll have you know, Kahoot games do in fact work over the radio.

In the fall of 2023, I started the show "Meadows and Streams". This show is my space to share my faith and spread the Gospel. I love creating playlists based on themes in the Bible I've read, putting songs in the perfect order so they blend together, and sharing verses I've read during the week. The title of my show is based on my favorite piece of scripture, Psalm 23. I love how peaceful it sounds, as well as how the "streams" part relates to music. I'm not just active on air with my show, I created an Instagram account for it, too! I love posting playlists and random tips on there. It's gotten me more into video creation and creating a "brand".

Through my participation in the Quake, I feel like I can express all my creativity. I can share music that means a lot to me, create ~aesthetically pleasing~ Instagram posts, and try my best to take cute pictures for my Story posts.

I haven't been on air this semester because the Quake is getting a remodel. Jeff Hazelden, Sterling Goodwin, and I are all so excited for this new chapter of the Quake. I was involved with revamping our new studio space, I can hardly wait to get into the new studio and create more content.

Stay tuned for what is coming in RCC 120!
